Today was one of the rare free days that we have in the factory. I slept in (well, till 7) and we headed out to a large shopping mall around 11:30. The photos below show a Chinese "taxi". They were everywhere.

Our first stop was a fake purse shop. It was exactly like NY. We had to go into an apartment building and ring a bell to get in. It was an apartment turned into fake purse store. I got to try out my bargaining skills. I got my total price down from $360 RNB to $300. Not bad for my first trip.

After we had our fill of the fake bags, we headed back out into the market. I'm realizing that Chinese people eat all the time. There was food everywhere!
I was dying to buy some of this fruit but I don't eat fruit in China that is already cut up. They don't refrigerate stuff (as you can see) so you never know how long it's been sitting there or how many flies have landed on it. Sorry for the gross mental picture...but at least you weren't seeing it in real life like me! If I eat food here, outside of the factory, I make sure it's been cooked at a high temp so that, hopefully, anything gross has been killed. But boy did that fruit look good!
I did eat the fried potatoes...
...and some BBQ chicken on a stick. Both were pretty good...all things considered.

We made a quick stop for some spicy noodles before we left. I passed on these. The surroundings, and lack of refrigeration, would not allow these noodles to look appetizing in any way.
After we left the market, we stopped at the DVD store. I love that place. $5 RNB for one DVD...thats less that $1 USD. Put in your oders now people! I'll probably be back in China in December. And if you're lucky, I'll try to sneak some illegal DVDs into the states for you.
We stopped for a traditional Chinese dinner on the way back to the factory. Please note that the head of this chicken has been included in this dish. GROSS!!! But the chicken actually tasted pretty good. And they removed the head (I think that was for my sake) so we didn't have to look at it while eating the rest of the chicken.

And that's what a typical day off in China looks like. It was great. I haven't had a Sunday off (while at the factory) in a while.
I'm loving all these posts! It looks like your phone is getting a lot of use! Also, that food all looks pretty gross, so I'm glad I'm not the one eating it. :) And we made about 80 bags of applesauce, so there will be plenty waiting for you when you get home. We even have a few bags labeled "esther."
